SOUTH END BY SEA - THE PLACE TO BE

Half of Home Slice was in South-end-on-Sea last weekend for a bit of rest bite from the city.  With us being of northern origin there are a lot of seaside towns of the south that we have not yet explored. Each one seems to get better and South-End is a true classic.  Here are a few snaps of the trip.
Pinwheels on every stall whizzing like mad in the sea breeze. We played a spot of crazy golf, Aztec themed crazy golf no less.

South end has the longest pier in the world- fact. It is so long there is a train that takes you to the end and back. We chose to walk (to counter act our chippy lunch) and according to the pedometer on my iPhone it was 2.5KM long! This is the view back towards the beach.
Then it was then on to the penny arcades - you might have seen this  pic on our Instagram but seriously, what a carpet!
LOVE Richard Scarry and his speedy worm. I wanted a ride but i couldn't fit in it.

I would have taken more but I was too busy stuffing dinky donuts in my face and marveling at the prison tats, it was a great day and only £19.50 for a return ticket for two from Liverpool street.  A perfect summer Saturday, you should go!

One for the Dads......

http://shop.homeslicedesign.com/product/sachet-pocket-apron

Fathers day is fast approaching, a chance to say thanks for all the gifts and wisdom our fathers have passed on us throughout the years. Such gems as "If you buy cheap you buy twice", '"Turn the lights off its like Blackpool illuminations in here" and "go an play in t' road" (hmm...)

And not to forget the sunny days when the BBQ would come out and Dad would man the coals, on his own, all day because he was the BBQ king and no one else could possible cook our sausages to such burnt perfection as Dad.

To celebrate this and to say thanks to all the Dads for all the carbonated snags we have 25% off our aprons up until Fathers day on Sunday 15th June.

Our Sachet Pocket Apron is man in UK, has a handy pocket on the front with our Sachet repeat print  and contrast red strapping. The Dads love them!

Pick Me Up it's been the Best...

Dear Mum...

In case you haven't written a card or a note in your diary, its Mums day this Sunday.
Go on, make her a brew and breakfast in bed, (if you can.)

Or at a long distance, send a shiny new mug to make her own in. Order by Thursday to get there get there gift wrapped and in good time.

Only in England...

The title sums up this show perfectly, Only In England, said in a rolling your eyes tone.

Martin Parr has rummaged through Tony Ray-Jones archive and brought together a huge, charming collection of his photography, analysing sixties Britain's quiet eccentricities. Ray-Jones works are then followed by Parr's 1970's (mainly northern) subjects, with the same humour and honour.

This super smashing great exhibition is at the Science Museum, till the 16th March, this Sunday! Do go and feel pleasantly patriotic.

Because four is always better than one........

Due to popular demand we are now selling our infamous Chippy plates as a full set of 4. This includes one of each of our chippy designs for the wonderful price of £75.00. What could be more tempting than that........(apart from the real deal wrapped up in paper, hot on your knee as you drive home whilst trying not to salivate on the dashboard)

Enjoy!

Striking for strikes...

Amongst London's urge to turn character filled hangouts into flashy flats, Rowans Bowling alley in London's Finsbury Park is next on the list for closure. If you haven't been, its a wonderful 1950's American inspired place (opened way before they became cool and on Brick Lane.) Its has hand painted signage, 2p slot machines, vodka slush puppies, dj's on a weekend and the most frightening grabber machine toys known to man (bottom left pic.)

If you haven't been, GO, have a lovely evening, then sign this petition to save Rowans!

Happy Christmas and Shopping!!!

WE FEEL FESTIVE, DO YOU?

Christmas has landed and with it its usual issues and obstacles such as; Who's driving on Christmas eve? Can I really give Grandad another box of Liquorice Allsorts that are on offer in Tesco for £2.00? Will he know they only cost £2.00? Do I even like mince pies? Do I even like Downton Abby? And why does it never feel like it used to when we were young?

We I am sorry, but we can't help you there. But we can answer the question - What Christmas cards can I send to my beloved that don't look like they've come from the usual Paper-chase/M & S/ Poundland.  Home Slice Christmas cards!

More specifically- our Christmas card pack that contains one of each of our cards (4 in total) for the bargainliciuos price of £7.00.

BOWLING WITH DESIGN CLUB

Home Slice are very VERY lucky to be involved in a wonderful group of creatives called 'Design Club'. Its not a particularly official club, we don't have a website or badges and to be a member you sort of just have to be making things, be quite a nice person and know one of us. Every month or so we get together to talk about what we are up to and to share information, advice and experience where we can. Its great to be part of this shared pool of knowledge where its OK to ask questions such as 'Who makes that for you' and actually revive an answer rather than a look that suggests they might want to murder you in your sleep for asking such a thing.

This week we went bowling, drank cocktails and chatted about the 5:2 diet whilst stuffing our faces with hotdogs. It was a very constructive evening.

First things first-LOOK AT STEPHS MASSIVE FEET! HA!
Midget VS Giant- game on!
Shimmery marbley bowling balls.
High point in the game where we stopped getting gutter balls and actually got some strikes!
Christmas bowling time
During dinner the secret Santa gifts came out where everyone brought somthing from their range, wrapped it up and put it in the Santa sack/bin liner. Look what Steph puller out the bag!
It was a London Skyline mug from the very talented Cecily Vassey
I went for the small/ jewellery sized box (obvs) and was lucky enough to get this beautiful wooden fox brooch from Anna Wiscombe

Twas a wonderful eve! More post to follow about all the Design Club members as they are a talented lot!

As so the festive party season begins..........roll on red wine mouth!

The arguments about when the christmas tree's going up are already underway and its okay to
j       casually eat mince pies. Its (almost) Christmas!!!
Heres some inspiration for those pescatarians amongst us at the festive table.

Free tomorrow? COME TO RENEGADE...

Wondering what to do this weekend? In London?? Haven't started christmas shopping yet???

If the answer to all of the above is NO. Have a nice weekend, get on a train and we envy you!

If the answer is YES to the above, GET TO RENEGADE. For over 100 cream of the creative crop makers wares including jewellery, prints, gifts and Fish n chip themed ceramics!

We'll be there, hope to see YOU. Yes YOU!!!

Holidays are coming...

Theres 68 days till Christmas! No need for alarm or panic anybody, but having witnessed a tree in a window yesterday, people are beginning the prep already.

We are also excited to announce Home Slice has christmas cards on the way. Available on our shop end of next week and at Renegade fair next month, thought we'd give you a sneaky peak at the drawings so far...

Healthiest meal?...

Now we love a chippy dinner, though under no illusion that this deep fried dish is a healthy option. This chippy in Tunbridge Well's however is a little in denial.

You crafty fox you...

Christmas is around the corner (maybe quite a few corners, however) it is on its way and Home Slice  was at Crafty Fox Sunday to celebrate and do our bit for those prepared people amongst us.

Brixton's Dogstar pub (Mike Skinner's old local) last sunday hosted the perfect crafted day: good tunes playing, shandy's flowing (don't knock em') and a collection of brilliantly unique jewels, bags, prints and gifts for all...

Well look who it is...

Wonderful friend Ladybird Likes  was also there with her gorgeous creatures and cameras jewellery...

Dont be shy now Ladybird Zoe. Have a peruse at her shop, there are many wood cut beauties.

Was a pleasure to share the room with Sandra Dieckmann's prints too, showcased on the wall mingled amongst the pubs permanent pictures and fixtures.

If you didn't make it to Brixton, pop to Renegade fair 9 & 10th of November. We'll be there with a shed and garage load of other brilliant designers and makers.
